Sharing My Thoughts and Inspiration

I'm so embarrassed to show anything in my house because everything is so run down. So, I'm going to kind of layout what I'm planning to do. If everything works after I finish I will show a before and after of the house though.

Living/Dining room:

We have an open house plan. Which I sort of hate because any colors I pick will have to flow from one room to the next. The Living room and Dining area is one big room so when I paint they will have to be the same color. Blah...but hopefully what I have in mind will work.
I found this picture on another site. This is exactly the colors I'm want for these rooms.

Sorry for the small picture. That's all I could get. The picture and design is by The Little Greene Paint Company. I have obsessed over this picture for two weeks. I Looooooove the colors! So that's my inspiration colors for the Living/Dining room. Yay!

Kitchen:

I really don't like themed Kitchens (for me anyways) but I'm using a few Norman Rockwell things that I've either made or stuff that has been given to me. Lot's of colors will be used like blue, yellow, white, pink etc...

Well that's it so far. I can't wait to get started with everything.

Today I'm working on two little tables I bought from Goodwill. Hopefully I will get done today and post pics tomorrow.

Decoupage Desk

This is a desk I found at Goodwill for $7.00. I've been looking for something small to put in my daughter's room since space is an issue there. I let my daughter decide how she wanted to decorate it. I think it turned out very cute.
This is before the top dried.
It's a little bright for me but she loves it!

Colorful Dog Bed Made From An Old Ottoman

I didn't have to do a lot of prep on the ottoman itself because it's in good shape. It just needed some cleaning.
I decided to use two beach towels I picked up on sale. I cut the ends off of one and hot glued them to each side of the other towel.
I then fitted it to the ottoman. A dog bed has to be washed every so often, so I decided not to permanently attach it. That way it can be easily removed and thrown in the wash.

I used a piece of foam board and a matching towel for the head board.

I made a body pillow and blanket out of the remaining piece of towel. Waa Laa! Oreo has a new bed and as you can see she loves it.

Deciding on my first project

So, I've been sitting here all day trying to decide what to do for my first project.I have been inspired by so many different ideas out there in blogland that I had a very hard time deciding.

While browsing some of my favorite sites today I noticed that the CSI Project's next challenge is The Road Kill Rescue. Now, since almost everything in my house is a free hand me down, I thought why not? So......what will I do?A couple of years ago, Jeremy's Grandfather gave us a chair with a matching ottoman. The chair was 20 plus years old and in decent shape but as a lot of you know used furniture that old doesn't last long when you have kids. As much as I hate to throw furniture away, the chair is not repairable but the ottoman is in good shape and I decided to keep it.

I know! It's a weird shape and an ugly color but before I tell you what I decided to do with the ottoman, let me introduce you to a member of our family.
This is Oreo

Oreo is a descendant of a dog my mother had 15 years ago. She loves to sleep in the bed with me but I can't stand it. She drives me crazy because when she sleeps she's dead weight. What I mean by that is usually an animal will move when you move. If you roll over and are about to land on an animal they will scoot over. Not Oreo. Sometime I will wake up with the dog completely under me or she will be squished up against my back with all four of her legs sticking straight up in the air. I will push her over so I can move and however she lands is the way she stays. Oh....and I believe she thinks she's a cat.

Exhibit A
This is Oreo sitting on the Cat's carpet tower

Back to the ottoman. I'm making Oreo her very own bed. This will be perfect for her because she liked taking her daily naps on it anyway and hopefully she will love it so much that she will not want to sleep with me anymore. (crosses fingers)

So, there it is. My first project. The ottoman needs a little repair and some major cleaning but I definitely have some really good ideas on how I will proceed with this project. Stay tuned..............

I Am Cre8ting: Introductions

A little about me: My name is Denise and I'm Mother to three wonderful kids, ages 7, 11, and 14. I also have a fantastic man in my life who supports everything I do. I'm a stay at home mom also, so living on a single income has brought out my creative DIY side. Decorating my home for the least amount of money has become a big goal in my life and recently I have discovered (via blogland) that you can create a beautiful home on a limited income.

About my home: My other half bought this house before we became a couple. I was living in a small mobile home with my children when we decided to move in together, so it wasn't an option when deciding who would move in with who. I love this place but it needs a lot of work.

We have lived here together for the last seven years and in those years I have learned that the original house that was on this property burned in the 80's and I believe afterward the owners built this house in a hurry and on a very limited income. If your reading this and follow along as I repair and decorate you will see what I mean.

Like a lot of families, everything we have is hand me down. It drives me nuts sometimes that I can't go out and buy a brand new living room or bed room set but that is the whole goal of this blog. To give new life to the things we have and hopefully to inspire other people to do the same. I know I have been inspired by all the great bloggers out there and I hope I can do the same for someone else.
